When my best friend and her family went camping this weekend with us, I was surprised when they brought along a portable DVD player for the kids to watch movies in the evenings.  Since this is only our third time to ever go camping, I didn’t think much about evening entertainment for the kids, and certainly would have never thought of bringing a portable DVD player along.   We don’t have one, but have considered buying one for long trips that we take across country.     On both evenings while we were sitting around the fire laughing and telling stories about our past, the kids were in one of the tents watching the portable DVD player.  We could hear them laughing every once in a while, but other than that, we didn’t hear much out of them at all.   She told us they’d found it online for a great price, and after seeing how great it was and how long the battery lasted on the portable DVD player, I think we’re going to order one soon.   It definitely can’t hurt anything and it’s great for keeping the kids occupied in remote places.
